EMPLOYMENT
Florida is ranked fourth in the nation in the State Tax
Climate index, which compares corporate income,
individual income, sales, unemployment insurance
and property taxes. Only Alaska, Wyoming and South
Dakota surpass this favorable tax climate, but none
of the three can boast a real climate as enticing as
Florida’s and the Space Coast’s.
Ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the No. 1
place to live in Florida and among the 25 best places to
live in the United States, it is no wonder that Brevard
County attracts a skilled, educated workforce eager
to enjoy a superior quality of life with affordable
housing and low taxes.
According to the Milken Institute, the Space Coast
boasts the most highly concentrated high-tech
economy in the Sunshine State, climbing an impressive
47 spots in just one year to become No. 10 in Milken
Institute’s Best Performing Cities of 2020.
“Florida’s Space Coast is quickly becoming known as
a hub for high tech and aerospace industries across
the nation,” said Lynda L. Weatherman, president and
CEO of the Economic Development Commission of
Florida’s Space Coast.
“This growing reputation occurring at the same time
the Space Coast enters our second golden age of
space exploration is a solid combination which will
help our area weather future economic storms while
strengthening our employment landscape.”
This thriving hub for aerospace and defense, business
services, manufacturing, communications, education,
environmental services, financial services and
information technologies enjoys a comprehensive
and uncongested transportation
network with quick access by road,
rail, sea and, of course, space to
markets and resources.
Kennedy Space Center, Patrick Space
Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space
Force Station have solidly cemented
Brevard as the center for space exploration,
but the county also enjoys a multifaceted job
market that encompasses a variety of career opportunities.
The county’s top three employers reflect the county’s robust and diverse
business climate. Brevard Public Schools is the 49th largest district in
the U.S. and the 10th largest district in Florida. As the largest employer
in Brevard County, BPS employs more than 9,000 staff members
serving more than 73,000 students annually in 84 schools, 15 special
centers and 12 charter schools.
The Space Coast’s second largest employer and Central Florida’s only
fully integrated healthcare network, Health First, has more than 8,000.
L3 Harris Corp., the state’s largest aerospace and defense company,
employs more than 7,000 in Central Florida.
Whatever the career, chances are excellent a good job awaits in Brevard.
