
Birds of steel, as well as those of the
feathered variety, are just a few of Brevard’s
special attractions.
At Kennedy Space Center Visitor
Complex, visitors can see the majesty
of the mighty Space Shuttle Atlantis and
even experience the sights, sounds and
sensations of being aboard a space shuttle
flight, plus tour the facilities that have
made space history and view incredible
spaced-themed films at the IMAX theater,
train like an astronaut and view legendary
aircraft and artifacts, including the moon
dust visible in Alan Shepard’s spacesuit.
Neighboring Kennedy Space Center is
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge,
home to exciting wildlife viewing, from
manatees to alligators, both from hiking
and driving trails.
At the other end of the county in
Melbourne Beach, the Barrier Island
Center is in the heart of the Archie Carr
National Refuge, a major nesting site
for sea turtles. This 34-acre sanctuary
explores the barrier island's diverse
habitats through interactive exhibits
and trails.
In Titusville, the American Space Museum
& Walk of Fame honors the space workers
and others who made the space program
possible and preserves the history of this
amazing chapter in our nation's history.
More than 50 historical warbirds, including
D-Day veteran, the C-47 Tico Belle, make
their home at the Valiant Air Command
Warbird Museum, also in Titusville.
The heroes of law enforcement are
celebrated at the American Police Hall
of Fame and Museum. The Titusville
facility is the nation’s first law enforcement
museum and features, in additions to
exhibits and special events, a state-of-theart
indoor shooting center with firearms
rentals, training and target practice.
