Lurking offshore along Brevard’s 72 miles
of beaches, and in the Indian, Banana and
St. Johns rivers, the multiple species of
fish that can be found are as diverse as
the waters they live in.
Both saltwater and fresh water fishing
provide a wide range of opportunity for
anglers no matter the season — there is
always something biting.
Whether dropping a line off the Cape
Canaveral Pier at Jetty Park, or casting
off the many beaches, trolling offshore,
or even fishing from a kayak on the
lagoons — the choices are many and the
chance of reeling in edible delights are
favorable everywhere in Brevard.
More than 500 species of fish live in the
waterways in and around the Space Coast.
Surf fishing, popular in the spring and
summer months, can be a great way for
anglers to hone their casting skills. Blue
fish, jacks, whiting, pompano and even
sharks are plentiful and can be found in
the troughs near the shore breaks.
In the winter season, southern flounder
that can grow to 20 pounds can be
found near the south end of the county
at Sebastian Inlet and can be caught
from boats or the rocky shores near
the catwalk.
Considered the northern most Atlantic
Coast destination for saltwater snook,
Brevard is a popular area for catching
the tasty delicacies that can be landed off
beaches along the coastline. Snook season
runs from September to December.
