Snoopy — Charlie Brown’s best friend, created for him by artist Charles Schultz — became NASA’s mascot in 1968. The world’s most famous beagle was assigned this important role during the space race to raise spirits and promote safety. Snoopy is just one example of the powerful — and very much planned — intersection between art and STEM on the Space Coast.

The days from Thanksgiving to Christmas can be make-or-break for area artists. More art is said to sell during November and December than any other time of the year. A big part of the Brevard holiday art scene is three outdoor festivals: the Space Coast Festival in Viera, the Eau Gallie ArtWorks Festival on the weekend before Thanksgiving and the Cocoa Beach Art Festival, which takes place Thanksgiving weekend.

So big that it evolves into The Children’s Hunger Project, a 501c3 charity that feeds nearly 3,000 children weekly, in 47 elementary schools, in an effort to eliminate the growing problem of weekend childhood hunger.
