WORKFORCE
The county's top three employers represent the
breadth of career opportunities available in the
Space Coast.
Brevard Public Schools, the 49th largest district
in the country, tops the list with more than 9,300
staff members serving more than 73,000 students
at 84 schools, 15 special centers and 12 charter
schools throughout the county.
The Space Coast's second largest employer, Health
First, is Central Florida's only fully integrated
healthcare network and employs more than
9,000 associates.
When L3 and Harris Corp. merged in 2019,
Florida's largest aerospace and defense company
was created, becoming the third largest employer
in the county, with 7,000 employees in Central
Florida and a total of 8,400 in the state.
All three employers anticipate the Space Coast's
continued strong growth and are actively seeking
individuals who would like to join them in their
mission.
And to help them achieve those missions, several
educational systems offer training programs
including:
EASTERN FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE
With more than 90 career and technical programs, Eastern Florida State College
prepares students for today's workforce, training graduates for entry-level
and advanced positions in a wide array of manufacturing specialties. EFSC
also partners with employers to provide customized training solutions.
The programs and courses offered at EFSC prepare students for employment
to support engineering design, manufacturing, process and production,
and product quality positions.
The Space Coast Consortium Apprenticeship Program and
Eastern Florida State College launched the Advanced Machinist
Apprenticeship Cohort in May 2021 and Mechatronics and Fiber
Composite Apprenticeship Cohorts in August 2021. The SCCAP
is an industry-driven apprenticeship sponsored by SpaceTEC
Partners Inc. in partnership with the college and led by advanced
manufacturing companies operating on Florida's Space Coast.
BREVARD PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Brevard public schools offer career and technical education in
advanced manufacturing technology, automotive maintenance
and light repair, aviation assembly and fabrication, engineering
pathways, machining tech, outboard marine service technology
and 32 other programs of study.
