FLORIDA'S SPACE COAST OFFICE OF TOURISM
The Space Coast, Brevard County, runs over 70 miles
north to south, with lots of options for the outdoors
types to explore the area’s natural wonders.
From the Canaveral National Seashore on the north
end to the Sebastian Inlet State Park on the south end,
the ultimate eco adventure on the Space Coast is the
beach. In between, every city has beach parks and public
access areas.
The Space Coast offers what experts consider to be
the best surfing in Florida. Surfers can find the best
conditions at the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier or the
surf breaks at Sebastian Inlet. You’ll find great surfing
conditions just about anywhere along the Brevard Coast.
If fishing is your thing, surf casting is popular on just
about any beach. There are plenty of fishing charters
if you want to try your luck in the Indian River Lagoon.
You’ll find great kayaking in the lagoon. The most
popular locations are the Thousand Islands Conservation
Area in Cocoa Beach and Honest John’s Fish Camp at
Melbourne Beach.
Brevard County Parks and Recreation has more than 150
parks and wildlife sanctuaries inland and on the beach.
There are two National Wildlife Refuges on the Space
Coast. Birding is the main attraction at Merritt Island
NWR in the fall and winter and turtle watchers flock
to the Archie Carr NWR during nesting season March
to November.
Hikers can find good trails at the Enchanted Forest
in Titusville, and stroll around the Rich Grissom
Memorial Wetlands in Viera. The Brevard County EEL’s
environmentally endangered land properties are not
developed for recreation, but there are nature trails.
