“Brotox” the use of Botox by men is gaining in popularity. Men constitute nearly 10 percent of all BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments and that number has grown considerably in the last 5 years. Dubbed “brotox” when used for men, the procedure is a simple, nonsurgical way to smooth lines between brows, forehead, next to eyes or around the lips. The injection is a purified protein that relaxes muscles that cause facial expression wrinkles.
The 10-minute treatment consists of a few tiny injections and creates minimal discomfort that is temporary. Most patients go right back to work or continue their activities immediately after the procedure. Cost depends on the areas treated and amount of Botox or Dysport or Xeomin used. Generally, treatment costs begin at $200 ($11 per unit of Botox/Xeomin or $4.00 per unit of Dysport).
Don’t worry, although the results are dramatic, it will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so you can still frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles or creases. The effects last up to 4 months. When the effects wear off, the injections can be repeated.
There are no known permanent side effects, only temporary ones. You may notice slight bruising where it was injected. This can be covered with makeup. Avoiding aspirin and related pain medications, as well as vitamin E, for 1 week prior will decrease any bruising.
Because this is a simple, short, low-risk procedure that leads to great success, it is an appealing option for men.
