THE TRANSFORMED SHOP

GIVE THE GIFT OF HOPE & HEALING FROM THE TRANSFORMED SHOP

Within the walls of the Transformed Shop sewing center in Melbourne, former homeless moms in Brevard County are finding hope & healing by creating unique items out of denim and other fabric scraps.

The Transformed Shop is a social enterprise of Melbourne’s New Life Mission, a long-term transitional housing for homeless women and children working toward self-sufficiency.

In the Transformed Shop, the women, who are called students in the New Life Mission program, work with staff and volunteers to cut and sew the repurposed fabrics. Like the materials they work with, their lives gain new purpose as they rearrange the scraps of the past into new and beautiful things.

Their creations range from denim key chains, bracelets, earrings to placemats, coasters and wine tote bags. The items are sold online www.transformedshop.com or at the store located at 1230 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, during community events.

All sales go toward supporting the work of the Transformed Shop and New Life Mission. By purchasing these products, you are empowering women to gain valuable skills to break their cycle of homelessness. For information on how to purchase these gifts, contact Amy Lyons at Amy.L.@NewLife-Mission.org; visit www.transformedshop.com; or call 321.480.9100.

REINVENTED INC. OFFERS 2021 CALENDARS: PRINCESSES WITH POWER TOOLS calendar
If you’re looking for a gift that is not only practical but will help support the nonprofit, Reinvented Inc., a Princesses with Power Tools calendar may be the perfect choice for a relative, friend or colleague.

Though often depicted as demure and helpless, princesses have captured the imaginations of children for centuries. Reinvented Inc. is a nonprofit that aims to create a more empowering narrative with its Princesses with Power Tools calendar, featuring 12 women who work in science, technology, engineering and math [STEM].

Knowing firsthand the setbacks women face when trying to enter STEM fields, aerospace engineer Caeley Looney, founder of Reinvented Inc., launched in 2019 Reinvented magazine, the nation’s first print magazine for girls in STEM. The organization strives to inspire the next generation of girls to pursue their passions in science and technology.

“When less than 28% of the STEM workforce is women or minorities, we know something needs to change,” said Looney. “I hope that we are able to get these calendars into homes and classrooms all over the world, so girls know that they can do whatever they set their mind to.”

The calendars feature volunteers, dressed as princesses, who teach children how to use their first power tool. To date, Princesses with Power Tools has reached more than 5,000 children, primarily girls between the ages of 5 and 13.

This year’s lineup features one Department of Defense 30 under 30 awardee, two social media content creators, four Ph.D.s and doctoral candidates, one AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador and seven women of color. Go to www.reinventedmagazine.com/princesses-with-power-tools for their biographies.
The calendars will be released Nov. 26 and can be purchased at www.reinventedmagazine.com for $20.
