Stepping over the threshold into Charlie and Cynthia Boyd’s abode, one feels akin to Alice, with Wonderland unfolding before her. Suddenly, the Cocoa Beach neighborhood has vanished as floor-to-ceiling windows welcome the wild elements of nature in sweeping views of the Banana River. This is a home built with real intelligence to the landscape that makes it grand.

Aside from their three beautiful daughters and their passion for ballroom dancing, “this collaboration has been one of my greatest joys,” says Cynthia as she smiles toward her husband.

A canvas of creativity

After 36 years assisting others in the creative process of dream home design through his custom homebuilding company, Charles Boyd Construction, Inc., Charlie and his wife knew what they wanted for their own home — clean lines and a contemporary sophistication that would provide the perfect canvas for their creativity.

Today, their 4,267 square-foot residence reflects this with bright white walls that transition seamlessly
throughout the home. With effortless curves, the structure seems to move with each rippling dance of the river. Every room flows into the next. And from all angles, in every room, a view of the river transpires.

The windows that provide these gorgeous views, Anderson Impact Windows, are also sustainable to hurricane-force winds, and represent just one example of the technological advancements and design that Charlie incorporates into the custom homes he builds. “The upkeep of the home and cost of utilities is greatly diminished because of the way we are building homes now,” he explains.

Beyond the windows, an infinity pool, constructed by Intercoastal Pool & Spa, spills into the horizon. This 50-foot lap pool blends beautifully with the surrounding sky and water. The pool’s luminescent tiles reflect the color palette of blues, purples and periwinkle that are sprinkled throughout the home’s interior.

Back inside, a floating staircase cascades into the center of the living room. Charlie points to the upstairs landing. There, a feminine face peeks out of a truly unique handrail —  a tribute to their three daughters. Fred Garbotz of Rockledge Design Studios, Inc. handcrafted the feminine silhouette, working closely with Cynthia to capture her distinct artistic vision.

Beyond the staircase’s railing, local artist Zoe Mac’s sky and water impression is painted directly onto the curve of the wall. The supple original work captures the essence of the home. “You can’t put barriers on artistic expression,” says Cynthia.

Trickling down from the 22-foot-ceiling, a crystal chandelier is accented with the soft glow of a periwinkle light tucked into the free-form ceiling. This attention to detail is found in the most unexpected ways throughout
the home.
When Cynthia is asked what she loves most about the home, without hesitation she points to the luxurious maple wood floors that flow throughout the home. “All our other homes had tile and my legs used to ache. I’ve not experienced that in this house.”

Inside the Boyds’ master suite, awe-inspiring views of the river stretch out toward the Thousand Islands. Charlie explains how the room has been carefully designed to give an impression that one is just floating above the water.

Tucked away into the ample suite are his and her bathrooms. “Separate bathrooms are a trend in new homes,” says Charlie as he steps into a spa-like space designed just for Cynthia.

A large walk-in steam shower, vanity, over-
sized closet and laundry space provide serenity
and practicality.

Building with vision, innovation & expertise

As Charlie tours his home, he radiates an energy and excitement that translates over into his work. It’s obvious that this enthusiasm drives Charles Boyd Construction, Inc. Only someone with vision, innovation and expertise could accomplish the construction of over 1,000 custom homes found throughout Brevard County.

Over the years, Charles Boyd Construction, Inc. has taken first-place awards in the custom homebuilder category of numerous Brevard County home shows. “We provide the highest quality of craftsmanship in every home we build,” Charlie stresses. “We pay attention to the details.”

This high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail is beautifully demonstrated throughout the home Charlie built for him and his family. Stained-glass windows highlight the front entrance. An amethyst sink found in the powder room transforms nature into practical beauty. The lacquered, periwinkle cabinets in the kitchen are sleek and contemporary. Upstairs, vintage-inspired appliances provide even more character to a game room with breathtaking views. Glass railings on the balconies off the guest suite and game room provide safety and unobstructed views. And custom-designed furniture pulls it all together.

This wonderland-come-to-life makes for a truly unforgettable home. As the sun makes its way across the Banana River for its daily western farewell, one can only dream of the sunsets witnessed inside this home poised for the show.
