Cocoa, FL, January 17, 2018– Unfortunately, of the approximately 10 million companion animals who wander away from home each year, 6 to 8 million will find themselves in the shelter system. Sadly, only 15% of the dogs and 2% of the cats without ID, will ever be reunited with their human families. A heartbreaking statistic that the Brevard Humane Society and a local Edgewood High School student hope to raise awareness of with the launch of their first ever Pet ID Design Contest.
“Losing a pet is a nightmare for any pet owner; fortunately, pets with ID tags and/or microchips are more likely to find their way home to their loving family,” states Brevard Humane Society Executive Director, Theresa Clifton. “We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping these life-saving items current. We encourage everyone to please take the time to ensure their pets are properly equipped in the event they are ever separated from you.”
While there are no limits to the number of entries, only one design will be selected and chosen to be manufactured by Dog Tag Art. Participants may create an ID tag that represents what their pet or the Brevard Humane Society means to them or a design featuring their favorite animal or pet(s). An organizational logo will be added to the winning design prior to printing.
In order to be considered, all entries must be received by 11:59 pm on Sunday, February 24th. Submissions should be uploaded via the Brevard Humane Society’s website at: www.brevardhumanesociety.org/tag-entry. The competition is open to all ages and artistic talents although minors should have permission from their parent and/or legal guardian prior to entering. An entry fee of $1 is required per entry which will directly benefit the homeless animals of the Brevard Humane Society.
