February 2, 2019, Melbourne, FL – The Junior League of South Brevard, Inc. (JLSB) presents the Girl POWER Symposium.
The Girl POWER project was developed by members of the all-volunteer based Junior League of South Brevard, Inc. after a need was identified to place a focus on providing access to tools necessary for a bright future through a positive impact on the lives of girls through innovative workshops focusing on self-esteem, nutrition, leadership and mentoring of local girls as a primary objective of the group. A steering committee was formed in 2018 to research opportunities as well as a partnership with the Leadership Brevard Class of 2018 to establish the first symposium. The Girl POWER project was first developed from this yearlong effort.
Girl POWER consists of free workshops intended to provide young women in Brevard County ages 14-18 years old with the necessary life skills needed to build and maintain a healthy lifestyle, both mind and body. The long-term impact in the community will be to build upon the programs, focusing on more involved workshops for “graduates” of the fundamental program, thereby following them as the young women progress in maturity and in life, giving the young women a chance to excel and empower themselves as they enter adulthood.
“The Girl POWER project is a direct response to the desire of our members to meet the needs of girls in our community,” said Cindy Parr, Girl POWER Committee Chair, Junior League of South Brevard, Inc. “Our Community Council has delivered meaningful support to the South Brevard area since 1966, Girl POWER is the next chapter of community impact and we are thrilled to provide the means to empower these girls’ lives in a positive manner.”
The activities of the Girl POWER Symposium are underwritten by the fundraising efforts of the Junior League of South Brevard, Inc.
