‘Paint the Night Red’ promotes heart health with education, screenings, fun

Rockledge, FL (February 1, 2018) – Rockledge Regional Medical Center is holding its fourth annual Paint the Night Red for Heart Health event on Thursday, February 22. It will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in Rockledge Regional Medical Center’s Café at 110 Longwood Avenue in Rockledge. The yearly event is in partnership with the American Heart Association. Members of that organization will also be on hand to speak with attendees.

Paint the Night Red is open to the public and will offer complimentary valet parking. It features physician lectures, various health screenings, educational forums, giveaways and plenty of heart-healthy hors d’oeuvres.

Karen Bole, one of the more than 100 guests who attended Paint the Night Red in 2017, said the event was “an outstanding opportunity to meet with healthcare providers and gain a better understanding of heart health.”

“It was great to have these professionals available in one place so we could discuss some of these crucial issues with them, receive some screenings and learn more about the heart procedures patients undergo,” she said. “Having healthy snacks and gifts was nice, too. I had an enjoyable time, and look forward to this year’s event.”

Speakers at the 2018 Paint the Night Red will be Amit Sharma, MD, an interventional cardiologist; and Natalie Sherman, RD/LDN, a nutritionist. Their lectures are designed to help attendees better understand the steps necessary for staying heart-healthy.

One of the popular attractions during Paint the Night Red is an informative tour of the catheter lab, where physicians insert life-saving stents and perform other high-tech cardiac procedures. “We are proud to be the only Chest Pain Accredited hospital in the county and we encourage the community to view the state-of-the-art facilities that are right here in their backyard,” said Andy Romine, president of Rockledge Regional Medical Center.

In addition to tours, the event’s free screenings will include blood pressure, pulse-oxygen levels and body mass index. “We are committed to making our communities healthier and that’s what we’re doing here – raising awareness and providing heart-healthy information,” said Romine.

Paint the Night Red will also be promoting the American Heart Association’s Brevard Heart Walk®, which will take place February 24 at 9 a.m. (check-in at 8 a.m.) at The Avenue Viera, 2261 Town Center Ave. in Viera. The walk will include both a three- and one-mile option.
