More Than Donuts | Love Bugs Bakery Keeps Growing

While Love Bugs Bakery has accumulated a craze-like following for their creative and delicious donuts, the bakery is more than sweet treats. This fan base is known to cause lines during “rush hour” and on the weekends though they don’t mind because these treats are worth the wait.

Patrick Culhane, the owner of Love Bugs Bakery, was one of the many raving fans even before he became the owner. While working in the banking business full-time, an opportunity to invest in the small local company and he couldn’t resist.

“The coconut crème pie donut is what sold me on the business,” Patrick said.

“We are a very unique bakery,” Patrick said. “We have a very large product offering and we really do so many things well.”

Love Bugs Bakeries boast a large offering of sandwiches, cupcakes, muffins and more, all made here locally with the finest ingredients. The first location, in West Melbourne, opened in September of 2010. Now with two additional locations in Viera (which opened in 2014) and Indian Harbour Beach (the latest addition) the fans have even more choices.

All three bakeries offer baked goodies, breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The lunch sandwiches are made fresh with Boar’s Head meats and are piled high with meat and your choice of toppings. The selection is short but the portions are large (often served with a fork for a good reason.) Breakfast sandwiches are made fresh too. Because what’s a donut shop without a good cup of coffee? The bakery also has specialty coffee offerings as well.

Though the largest variety is found with donuts, Love Bugs also makes handcrafted bagels, muffins and cupcakes. The bakery also creates custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies and donuts for all kinds of occasions. They can cater any breakfast or lunch event, even serving weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and many other celebrations.

“Love Bugs has always been innovative in its approach to the product line,” Patrick said. A delicious example would be the maple bacon bars. The maple bacon bar is a large bar donut with a sweet maple glaze topped off with fresh made thick sliced bacon.love-bugs-bakery

“People have traveled from other states and we have gotten some national media attention because of these,” Patrick said. Other favorites, the red velvet donuts with or without cream cheese icing and the Key lime pie donut (when available) are made every day while others are considered specialties and could be seasonal. After one visit, you’ll understand why this locally owned restaurant, bakery and coffee shop continues to grow. Patrick sees even more offerings in the future.

“Expect more unique items to come as we are currently working on adding many more limited time specialty products.”
