A Local Favorite Keeps Getting Better

First came Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar at the Port’s Cove dining district, which became a mainstay for locals and cruise ship passengers alike. Diners gather to watch the cruise ships go by and enjoy a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Then the southern part of the county welcomed Grills Riverside off U.S. Highway 1 in Melbourne with spectacular views of the Indian River.

The same Caribbean-casual atmosphere is found at both locations as is the same delicious food, attentive service and the best live entertainment in the county.

This “recipe” for success is what led the Cape Canaveral location to recently undergo an expansion and renovation to meet the needs of the booming Port area, including the addition of another cruise terminal.

The expansion, scheduled to be finished this month, will provide more space in both the kitchen and waiting area and accommodate a new frozen yogurt station, an already popular part of the Riverside location. Both restaurants have indoor and outdoor seating with views of the water.

The dinner and lunch menus emphasize fresh seafood done right, i.e. not fried. Popular items include bacon wrapped scallops — fresh, deep-water scallops seasoned with lemon pepper, wrapped with bacon, skewered and grilled; fresh grilled fish of the day and fish tacos — California style with a tropical twist with a choice of mahi-mahi or tuna. A special discounted price is available for “Taco Tuesdays.” Sushi lovers enjoy the Tahitian tuna poke, premium sushi grade tuna that is seared, chilled and served over coconut sticky rice. The grilled fish sandwich iscoconut shrimp another popular choice made with the freshest fish available.

Not many additions have been added to the menu throughout the years but two that have been deemed worth the addition are the grilled Cuban and the grilled shrimp Cuban that seems an unexpected twist but with a delectable result.

Kids, both young and old at heart will want to make a trip to the frozen yogurt station where you can pick your own portions and toppings for a one-of-a-kind dessert.

Breakfast at the Riverside location will soon be served seven days a week, like Cape Canaveral. Well-loved by morning diners are the seafood omelet with crab, shrimp, melted cheese, chives and mushrooms, topped with Caribbean hollandaise sauce. The eggs benedict made with crab meat in place of Canadian bacon and the Caribbean hollandaise sauce is also a good choice for seafood lovers. The bluewater breakfast burrito is stuffed with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes and cheese — you won’t leave hungry.

Local live entertainment at both locations Wednesday through Sunday draws a crowd during happy hour and on the weekends but customers don’t mind. The atmosphere, fresh food and fun atmosphere is worth the wait.
