Painting with a TwistLast month, I asked everyone a simple question, “What will inspire you in 2018?” For me, it was a breezy afternoon remembering to the days of gardening with my mom, which then sparked the interest to start my own potted-plant canvas outside. By the way, those plants are still alive, kicking and gaining height, which is impressive for this non-horticulturist. This month’s inspiration evolved and surprised me some. In honor of Mother’s Day, I started to think of unique gift ideas to send to my mom. I asked myself, if my mom lived nearby, what would I plan with her? That’s easy, a fun artistic project. After a touch of research, I stumbled across a quaint little shop in Cocoa Village called Painting with a Twist. Immediately, I said, yes, I have to try this. Most of you have heard of these concepts but the majority of you probably have yet to try it. For about two hours, you and several others are part of a Painting Course 101, where a live instructor walks everyone through the steps of creating a masterpiece. All you have to do is show up on time with a bottle of your favorite beverage. So, what did I do? I grabbed my favorite Florida Auntie Mel, a nice bottle of Chardonnay and booked us for the Pristine Peacock painting night. I couldn’t believe how perfect this was. Have you ever heard of Peacock Beach here in Brevard? I grew up visiting this place so painting a peacock was perfect. After all, if this turned out, I had a cool new place to go next time my mom visited town.

I gave the shop’s owners a call, Jessica and Rocky Jones, and told them I was attending one of their classes.  They were thrilled and certainly right about something- the class does bring out your “inner artist.”

Let me tell you something; if this concept doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what will. Jumping into this, I had no idea that my once upon a time love for artistic canvas painting would be rekindled by just one quick course. Even if you’re not an artistic person, it’s no problem. It’s a fun night out with the girls and you get a nice little take-home souvenir.

This experience not only got the creative juices flowing again, but it inspired me to embark on something new. Brevard is full of hidden gems for us to visit and enjoy, so I can’t wait to share with you the next place I’ll be visiting.
