Simply the Best…Kelly Slater

In one afternoon hometown hero Kelly Slater became both the youngest (in 1992) and then oldest (in 2010) man to ever win the ASP World Championship as he captured his record breaking tenth title this fall in Puerto Rico.  A few weeks later the 38 year old Slater returned to his hometown of Cocoa Beach to celebrate “Kelly Slater Day” during the unveiling of a nine and a half foot bronze statue of himself in Triangle Park. Family members, friends and fans gathered for the afternoon ceremony, including artist Tasha Drazich, a graduate of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School who created the sculpture from a 1988 photograph of Slater surfing at Sebastian Inlet.
