The Dance Zone has been inspiring and training dancers for 25 years. Directors Jody Schur and Lori Spencer Gust strive to give every student an experience that will make an impact on their lives forever. Whether the student chooses a professional career in dance or uses dance to enhance their lives, the Dance Zone is the perfect place to learn, grow and create.
Jody Schur studied in New York and Lori Gust studied at Florida School of the Arts. Both still travel to New York to attend classes and workshops, always keeping their “toe” on the pulse of an ever-changing dance culture.
They feel strongly about creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere at The Dance Zone where students can achieve their goals in a positive environment.
The Dance Zone is a studio where the main goal is to improve students’ abilities and foster personal growth through creativity. They offer a variety of classes in ballet, jazz, theatre, pointe, contemporary, hip hop, leaps and turns and acro. They also have a Children’s Program which includes creative movement, pre-ballet, mommy and me and morning classes for home-schooled students. The Dance Zone also invites master teachers/choreographers each year to work with students and set choreography for their spring recital.
Many Dance Zone alumni have continued professionally in dance and theater including Rebecca Whittington Ross (graduate of Arizona University and professional dancer in New York and Florida), Alyson Dolan (graduate of FSU and professional modern dancer in Austin, Texas), Rachel Schur (graduate of James Madison University and professional dancer/actor in NYC) and Adam Davidson (graduate of PACE University in NYC and professional dancer/actor).
One local mother, Valerie Philips Karas told DZ, “My three girls have grown up dancing at the Dance Zone. We just love the atmosphere, honoring dance, building character and life!”
The Dance Zone is currently accepting new students for the 2016-2017 year. Jody and Lori welcome anyone wanting to improve their dance technique while experiencing the love of dance to call the studio for information. Often coming to a class and just trying it for yourself is the best first step.
