Toxins are all around us every day. In our air, water, textiles, perfumes and especially our personal grooming products.  A recent study found that the average woman puts over 100 chemicals on her body before she even leaves the house. In turn, those chemicals are in the  bloodstream in just 56 seconds, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Dr. Mitchell Ghen, recognized across the nation as an authoritative voice with over 33 years of experience on anti-aging, holistic and integrative medicine, has done extensive research on the subject of toxicity.  Toxicity is defined as the degree to which a substance (a toxin or poison) can harm humans.

He explains that the marked increase in chronic diseases and the seemingly decrease in longevity is linked to the amount of toxins in our bodies over time.  Synthetic chemicals like sulfates, parabens, preservatives, detergents and phthalates have been linked to free radical generators and health issues such as allergies, eczema and even cancer. This toxic accumulation begins in utero and eventually results in the liver’s inability to keep up with detoxifying the body which leads to organ failure.

Dr. Ghen recommends starting with educating yourself. Read the labels on the back of any product in your home, especially the personal grooming products you use. The ingredients are listed in order of quantity. If water is listed first, you might be paying a lot of money for basically water.

What’s the solution?

Dr. Ghen says avoidance. “Do the things that keep us away from these chemicals,” he said. “Especially the ones we put on our hair, skin and body every morning before we leave the house.”

The solution is mainly about how we take care of ourselves and avoiding those substances that are burdening our body and causing us to get sick.

“Clean up the environment in your home, workplace and car,” Dr. Ghen said. “Clean up your body. Don’t put things on your body with chemicals that are going to seep into your general  bloodstream.”

Recently, Dr. Ghen became a spokesperson for the ENVY Organics line of skin care, hair, body, facial, sun care and anti-aging products. The products are 100 percent natural and made with organic ingredients. While he admits he was skeptical at first, he couldn’t argue with the natural, safe and organic ingredients.

“I noticed that every single part of each product was perfectly natural, perfectly safe and organic,” he said.  “This is something I would put on my six children and four grandchildren without a thought in my mind.”

Even better he says, the products are more efficient than synthetics and are really affordable.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and what you put on it – including lotions, shampoos and soaps – gets absorbed into it.

“We cannot leave our health always up to somebody else. Only you can be ultimately responsible for you and your family.”

Dr. Mitchell Ghen will speak on toxicity at the ENVY Organics Conference in Melbourne on October 10.
