Only the best for the Space Coast

Best of the Space Coast Welcome to the Best of the Space Coast issue of the best magazine in Florida, as declared in August by the Florida Magazine Association, which named us the best magazine in our class.

Brevard County has a lot to offer, and we hope you’ll see the many outstanding recreational and business resources the region has as you peruse our annual Best of the Space Coast results beginning on Page 14.

Who typifies the region more than the heroes that made us the Space Coast?  In Views from Above beginning on Page 26, writer Lucinda Coulter shares insights about space exploration in the words of the astronauts themselves.

Protecting our environment is a key value shared by many on the Space Coast, as evidenced by the recent election in which Brevard voters agreed to buy more land to be protected from development. Fred Mays shares the details in Safeguarding the Future beginning on Page 36.

Preservation of a different kind -— historical preservation — is paramount as Christopher Brooks continues to share his journey returning his Titusville home to its former glory in Best-laid Plans beginning on Page 58. You may also be interested in Step Back in Time, a feature on a Tudor-style home in Rockledge that has plenty of modern amenities, on Page 50.

Ensuring a robust Brevard economy for the future is the mission of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast. In Redefining Mission, beginning on Page 44, Maria Sonnenberg writes about how the commission is working on a collaborative effort to define the area economically and develop a brand for it.

In some ways, Brevard can be a tropical oasis, and in Labor of Love beginning on Page 62, you’ll find out how tropical fruit trees can be raised successfully on the Space Coast.

Finally, meet one of Brevard’s best tennis players, Mark Harrison, in Courting Champions beginning on Page 66. Harrison, a member of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame, is a past winner of the United States Tennis Association’s national at Forest Hills.

Harrison continues to compete throughout the world while pursuing an active teaching career in Melbourne and New York’s Hamptons.

And speaking of the best, all the best to you in 2023!
