Instead of spending time combing the stores for the perfect gift for a loved one this Valentine’s Day, consider purchasing tickets for a night out on the town that supports worthwhile causes.

12th annual “Have-a-Heart” Valentine’s Extravaganza

Candlelighters of Brevard will again host their Valentine’s Extravaganza on February 8 at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club. The evening includes cocktails, gourmet food and silent and live auctions. Candlelighters of Brevard is a nonprofit organization dedicated to children with cancer and their families by offering emotional support and financial assistance.

In addition to the extreme financial strain of paying for care, Brevard based families must also devote an overwhelming amount of time, travel and money for countless other expenses. Because there are no pediatric oncologists in Brevard, 100 percent of families must travel out of county in order to seek medical care.

Families also drive approximately 204,169 miles to their treatment centers and spend close to $27,300 on gas alone — each year. In 2012 families spent 738 days at clinic visits, 970 days in-patient and 200 days were spent at the Ronald McDonald House.

The Nelson Family of Brevard County Hyundai Dealers has donated a brand new 2014 Hyundai Sonata to be given away the night of the Extravaganza. Separate ticket purchase required — one ticket for $10 or ten tickets for $50.

7th Annual Portraits of Possibilities

An Evening in Brazil,” the 7th Annual Portraits of Possibilities, is an elegant evening that features live entertainment, silent and live auctions, a casino, gourmet food and beverage stations and more at the Eau Gallie Civic Center February 15.
Children’s Home Society of Florida offers family-centered and child-focused programs designed to nurture children and bring families together. Through counseling, residential care, and parent education programs, we are passionate about stopping the generational cycle of abuse and neglect for children.

Portraits of Possibilities has helped hundreds of children heal from abusive backgrounds and find loving, forever families. The support has provided new moms with the resources needed to raise happy and healthy babies, and offered teens with no other place to call home a safe haven at the Hacienda Girls Ranch. Funds provide services to ensure the mental health needs of children and teens are being met, and have given young women the opportunity to learn to live independently as they begin their adult lives.

Each ticket purchased to Portraits of Possibilities includes a $25 gift card for salon and spa services at Maxine’s Salon and Spa in downtown Eau Gallie.
