The restaurants of Long Doggers Eateries, Inc. are committed to authenticity, quality and value.
It may not be a new concept — the surf shop atmosphere and the casual restaurant but it is a concept perfected by Long Doggers Eateries, Inc. In 1997 L.J. Burr and Al Steiginga opened the first Long Doggers in Indialantic. Styled like a surf shop with good food and a relaxed environment, the concept was wildly popular and as it grew, the restaurant partners made plans to expand elsewhere in Brevard.
Meanwhile, L.J., one of the principal owners noticed an opportunity in downtown Melbourne, foreseeing the potential of the area to become a dining and nightlife destination in Brevard. L.J. and Scott Marathas opened Meg O’ Malley’s in 2000 when a property became available in the area.
With both restaurants running well, the partners believed that the Long Doggers’ radically relaxed atmosphere and delicious food seemed an obvious choice for expansion. The second Long Doggers, on Post Road in Melbourne, opened in September 2003. Satellite Beach opened November 2004, and Long Doggers in Palm Bay (Minton Road) opened February 2007. The latest Long Doggers opened in Viera in October of last year.
Each decision to expand is based on employees’ development within the organization. Staff members are provided the opportunities for promotion within the organization.
“The leaders make decisions based on people not dollars,” L.J. explains. “That’s how we grow business. We’re building roots in the community.”
With close to 300 employees between the six restaurants and the local owners and leaders, the organization is committed to making a difference in the community. From the corporate level to individual restaurants, Long Doggers Eateries, Inc. supports nonprofit events locally and individual employees who are passionate about a specific cause.
Whether enjoying great food with family in a “radically relaxed” ambiance or having a drink with friends at an Irish pub with music, authentic food and drinks, the restaurants of Long Doggers Eateries, Inc. are committed to authenticity, quality and value.
Dr. Steven R. Hicks explained, “Our restaurants are comfortable escapes for both locals and visitors. This area is our home; we want our guests to feel that.”
