Jason Hook began Operation Superhero two years ago, after encountering the work of California artist, Josh Rossi. Rossi used his talents as a photographer and Photoshop expert to transform young children into their favorite superheroes and, touched by the idea, Hook decided he would use his very same talents to do the same for children here on the Space Coast.

To accomplish such an ambitious project, Hook partners with non-profits, who act as both the fundraisers for the project, as well as the panelists, per say, in deciding which children will be transformed.

The first foundation to work with Hook was Puzzle Box Academy, who then selected two young children with developmental disorders to don a costume and spend a few hours in a photoshoot with Hook. He then, along with the help of Nevin Flinchbaugh, transformed the images into high-quality movie posters, which can be cherished by the families for years to come.

This year, Hook partnered with Candlelighters of Brevard to bring the project to even larger heights. Candlelighters chose six children for this project, and raised the funds necessary for costumes, printing costs and an incredible reveal party at the Oaks, where the children and their families were able to enjoy their very own red carpet, private theater and special Hollywood-themed afterparty. Candlelighters even recruited videographer, Josh Painter, to film and create movie trailers for each of the children, which were played in the private theater before the reveal of their posters.

The families took the posters home with them, and the images can be used as a constant reminder of the strength their children possess and use as their weapon in the battle against the evil villain, cancer.

Hook had an incredible experience with Candlelighters, so Hook’s Operation Superhero will be a recurring program for Candlelighters of Brevard. Check in with them to see how you can help.
