The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse Hosts Benefit Celebrating 20 Seasons at the King Center

The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse will celebrate its past 20 seasons on January 22, at the King Center.

“Everything’s Coming Up Roses” is a fast-paced cabaret show featuring the best numbers and songs from the greatest shows ever performed by the volunteer cast, past and present. Under the direction of Anastacia Hawkins-Smith and emceed by veteran cast member Rick Roach, the show will be a brisk walk down memory lane.

Special guest Tony Macaulay, a man whose music is known to all; “Build Me up Buttercup” and “Last Night I didn’t Get to Sleep at All”, “Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes”, “Don’t Give Up on us Baby” will perform.   Tony Macaulay is a resident of Cocoa Beach and a regular patron of the playhouse.

The playhouse began in 1924 as a movie house and the centerpiece of the small town of Cocoa.  By 1985, it was a dilapidated building with birds occupying the old theater, a hole in the roof, and a very valid demolition threat.   BCC rescued the building and by 1990, provided a venue for quality entertainment.  Its rebirth rejuvenated the Cocoa Village area, making it once again, the crown jewel of downtown Cocoa with surrounding shopping and dining.

Now the theater is under the ownership of the City of Cocoa, it is expected to stand on its own within three years. The benefit will raise money for much needed repairs and to keep the infrastructure intact.

Tickets start at $15 and $25.  Special VIP seating is available for $100, which includes a champagne reception before the show, and an entry for a drawing to win $10,000.  The winner will be announced in the second half of the show.
