Dr. Frank Venzara III is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon specializing in macular degeneration, retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, eye trauma and all aspects of retina care. He founded Florida Retina Specialists in August 2014 and is currently seeing patients in the Merritt Island, Rockledge/Viera and Sebastian offices.
Venzara obtained his biomedical engineering degree and Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Miami, followed by a four-year residency at Texas A&M Scott & White Eye Institute. Venzara completed his training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he performed over 1,100 virectomy surgeries at the renowned Callahan Eye Hospital during his two-year retina fellowship – that is two-and-a-half times the
national average.
During his yearlong clinical research at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, he received the Edward W.D. Norton Memorial Award for Excellence in Research and Clinical Ophthalmology. He resides in his hometown of Merritt Island with his wife, Juliet, and four children.
Venzara was awarded the 2014 Central Florida Humanitarian Award for his medical mission work in Haiti, Nicaragua and Mexico. He currently serves as volunteer faculty for the UCF College of Medicine.
