It’s Christmas in July at Fiber Guild meeting

It’s Christmas in July when Laura Kuhn presents a program on flat needle felting at the July meeting of the Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artists at 10 am, Saturday July 26, at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N Courtenay Pkwy.

Laura will demonstrate the technique of felting with needles as she creates small pendants and hoops suitable for Christmas ornaments and gifts.A long time fiber artist, Laura began felting while search for a ‘quicker’ project that used less brain power than the crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, and quilting

that she also has mastered..

Her favorite thing to make is pieces that fit in a 4″ embroidery hoop which will become part of a gallery wall installation. Her designs are inspired by nature as well as ideas based on stained glass patterns.

Her program will be followed by a hands on workshop with limited openings.. She will provide supplies including: either a 1″ square pendant or a 2″ hoop ornament, felt backing, wool roving, a foam pad and a set of felting needles. The fee for supplies is $5.  Participants should bring scissors, tacky glue if you have it and your own wool roving if you wish specific colors.

Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts.  Meetings are free and open to the public.
