Galleria OF Art & Photography

Rose Marie Capasso

Rose Marie Capasso turned tragedy into triumph through the Galleria of Art & Photography.

Although a car accident that fractured her sternum and tore the tendons of her rotator cuffs limited the artist’s ability to move her arms, Rose Marie rehabilitated herself, both physically and psychologically, by learning the delicate technique of mandala painting. Mandalas, characterized by intricate, circular designs often with spiritual or symbolic meaning, are typically built around a central point, with layers of patterns and shapes radiating outwards. The works encourage introspection and serenity for both the artist and the viewer.

A car accident was only a fraction of the challenges Rose Marie faced in less than three years. She also contracted Covid-19 before vaccines had become available and later also faced a cancer diagnosis that resulted in a double mastectomy, all in less than three years. Her spirit prevailed, however, as she focused not on her limitations but on her opportunities, which resulted in the opening of the Galleria of Art & Photography in Suntree earlier this year.

“I have a strong faith in God and I want to honor him in my work and my life,” Rose Marie said.

With her new gallery, Rose Marie connects collectors with some of Brevard’s best artists. Her Mandalas, as well as her stunning acrylic and mixed media paintings series on Florida wildlife and the world’s critically endangered animals are on display at the gallery, together with the works of ten other local artists.

Rose Marie’s paintings reflect deep affinity for all of God’s creatures, as well as finely-honed craftsmanship and innate sense of design.

A former teacher for a decade and an interior designer for 11 more years, Rose Marie studied figure drawing, explored various mediums and dove deep into principles of design. Part of Galleria’s mission includes art classes for children, teens and adults in a variety of media. Classes are limited to only ten students to allow abundant individualized attention and critique.

“I find joy in encouraging the efforts of others,” she said.

Joining her at Galleria are eight artists and two photographers among the most creative professional artists in Brevard. Mark Stanford, for example, continues the legacy of the Highwaymen artists and their brilliant landscapes. Stanford’s artwork is featured in an upcoming film about these historic Florida painters.

“We have a wide variety of artists represented,” Rose Marie said.

Zydra Delaney is another case in point. Born in Lithuania, Delaney is a professional artist living and working in Merritt Island. Inspired by Florida seashores, Delaney employs a range of mediums, including epoxy resin layered with vibrant pigments and a glossy finish to bring her vision to life. Her uplifting works attract collectors from around the world.

Rose Marie, who is planning several art events throughout the year, invites fans of inspirational and extraordinary art to visit the Galleria of Art & Photography.

“Our staff would be delighted to discuss your decorating needs over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine,” she said. “We’re here to make your world brighter with our art.
