Jazz Concert: Vocalist Maddy Winer

We’re celebrating the holidays with the joyful voice of Maddy Winer, a complimentary glass of wine and festive decorations!

Over the past three decades Maddy has enthralled audiences with her distinctive, recognizable voice. She attributes her successes to her love of the Great American Songbook, jazz standards and the pop music of her youth.

Born in New York City, Maddy grew up surrounded by her large Italian family. At the age of three she performed at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and performance it became her lifelong passion.

Maddy performed contemporary pop music after graduating from college, but always managed to incorporate selections from the American Popular Songbook. She became known for her effortless interpretation and jazz styling of the American Popular Songbook and developed a loyal following.

In 1985 she met pianist/composer Loonis McGlohon, host of the NPR Peabody award-winning series “American Popular Song.” Together they performed American Popular Song jazz concerts and clinics throughout the eastern United States including a sold out performance at Lincoln Center in New York City. Two McGlohon recordings “The Music Of Loonis McGlohon” and “Name Dropping” include selections sung by Maddy along with selections by Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine, George Shearing, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Joe Williams, Margaret Whiting and Judy Garland.

Maddy also toured as a headliner in the stage show “North Carolina Is My Home,” written by and starring Loonis McGlohon and Charles Kuralt. The performances were so successful that NPR created and aired a television special “Loonis McGlohon & Friends” which featured Maddy.

She has headlined concerts at Lincoln Center in New York City. the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, the Saint Louis Symphony, Saint Lawrence Centre For The Arts in Toronto and countless venues in between. Maddy’s opening act performances include Dave Brubeck, Lou Rawls, David Sanborn, Joe Sample & The Crusaders, George Shearing, Al Jarreau, Ellis Marsalis, John Pizzarelli, Diane Schuur and more.

Maddy has two CD’s, “HEART TO HEART” featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Vince Lewis, John Brown and Todd Wright; and “CROSSROADS” with Heritage Guitar jazz legend Vince Lewis, Rick Simerly, Todd Wright, Bill Covington, Tom Hildreth and River Guerguerian.
