Galmont Ballet... more than just dance!
SUMMER 2022: 75
almont Ballet, which is celebrating its
20th. anniversary in Brevard, forges longlasting
connections with students. Take
Reagan Ramsey, for example.
“I was a student at Galmont Ballet from
2010 until I graduated in 2019,” said Reagan.
“I received a dance education that would prepare
me to dance with a professional ballet company.”
Indeed, after graduation Reagan danced
professional in Columbus, Ohio.
“Throughout my time there, I always came back to
my home studio to take classes and to perform,”
she added.
Reagan has again returned, this time as a teacher.
“One of the best things about Galmont Ballet is that
we really are one big family,” she said.
Established by ballet master and choreographer
Frank Galvez and ballet mistress Lucia Montero,
Galmont has earned a well-deserved reputation for
quality dance instruction for dancers of all ages.
“We have helped more than 2,000 youngsters in our
community discover the joy and beauty of dance,”
said Lucia.
“Many of our students have been accepted to major
nationwide summer programs and numerous
professional ballet companies.”
Galvez and Montero go well beyond nurturing a
firm foundation in dance skills.
“Mr. Frank and Mrs. Lucia have created a safe and
comfortable learning environment filled with so
much love where we can really grow and inspire
each other,” said Reagan.
“They really are like second parents to me and
my peers, and the lessons they have taught me
throughout my years here mean more to me than
anything. They not only teach us how to become
stronger dancers, but many life lessons along the
way that turn us into better people.”
Galvez and Montero bring a wealth of experience
and knowledge to their school. Lucia has performed
in Venezuela with Ballet of Zulia, Maracaibo Ballet,
The New Company, and in United States of with
Ballet Concerto of Miami, Momentum Dance
Company, Dance Theater West, and Ballet Nova. For
two years, she was part of Spellbound in Las Vegas
and has performed in productions of A Chorus Line
and West Side Story. She served as ballet mistress for
Dance Theater West and Ballet Nova and was school
director for Lexington Ballet.
Galvez, now artistic director emeritus, has six
decades of professional achievements that include
performances
in more than
40 countries.
The legendary
Rudolf Nureyev
invited him to
perform the
role of Von
Rothbart in
his production
of Swan Lake,
touring six
countries.
The school’s
program is
divided into
six different graded levels of intensive training for
students ranging from three to 18 years of age, as
well as a class for adults. A pre-professional program
serves students who want to hone their art to the
next level.
“We remain committed to the highest possible
artistic and creative standards,” said Lucia.
The resident ballet company of Historic Cocoa
Village Playhouse since 2008, Galmont Ballet
immerses its students in Galvez’s unique version
of the Nutcracker, set in the American heartland of
the turn of the century. The large-scale production
connects local talent with well-respected
professional dancers from around the world.
Galmont’s quality productions, which feature both
classical and contemporary dances, have been
showcased at the King Center for the Performing
Arts, Florida Tech’s Gleason Performing Arts Center
and the Henegar Center for the Arts, in addition to
the Cocoa Village Playhouse.
Galmont also walks the walk — or make that dances
the dance — in support of fundraising efforts for
area nonprofits.
“Through community service we teach and learn the
value of kindness,” explained Montero.
“This is a generation of dancers who can make a
change. We are more than just dance.”
