SUMMER 2022: 51
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
CELEBRATES 60 YEARS
SUMMER The U.S. real estate market is smoking hot, and Brevard County is no
exception. Housing prices have skyrocketed, and many homes are
selling in just hours or even minutes on the market, often at prices
above the initial asking price. The demand for housing nationally and
locally is showing no signs of letting up.
“We’ve been discovered” says Chad Paulsen, Broker/Owner at Blue
Marlin Real Estate.
“Our brand quickly caught on and it’s something people can relate to.”
Blue Marlin is widely known for their branding, catchy shirt designs,
branded vehicles and YETI closing gifts. Their brokerage is one of
the biggest players in the Brevard real estate market. Last year, 2021,
the company had record home sales exceeding $455 million. 2022 is
already on track to beat that number substantially. Since its founding
in 2016, the company has rapidly eclipsed more than $1 billion in sales
which is unheard of from an independent brokerage in such a short
amount of time.
“We never would have thought so many people would want to wear a
real estate company shirt, now we can’t give them out quick enough”,
says Paulsen. “It’s amazing to me to see people walking through Publix
with a Blue Marlin shirt on, or to see one of our coolers at the beach.”
Blue Marlin is guided by Paulsen and partner/owner Nick Chambers.
The agency has quickly grown to two offices, Merritt Island and
Downtown Eau Gallie, and a third in Titusville which will be open this
summer. The firm has more than 170 active agents, and Blue Marlin
prides itself as being recognized as the #1 Independent Brokerage in
Brevard County.
Both partners say the explosive growth on the Space Coast has
triggered the local real estate boom. As for Blue Marlin’s success,
Chambers says “As an independent company, I’m extremely proud of
the way our staff and agents have committed themselves to improving
for our clients.”
According to Paulsen, growth in the space industry is a big key to
Brevard’s growth, now and into the future. “It’s not just NASA anymore,
there are many private and expanding companies” feeding the real
estate market. “I don’t see the music slowing down.”
Paulsen and Chambers were childhood friends, and are both local
guys made good. Paulsen got his real estate license when he was 19.
He spent much of his teen years exploring the Banana River. His family
owned Paulsen’s Bait and Tackle in Merritt Island, modern day The Island
Waterfront Bar & Grill. Chambers’ father was a prominent real estate developer
in South Florida and later in Brevard. After graduating from UCF,
it was only natural that he turned to real estate to apply his knowledge.
Both say their local roots have been an important part of their success.
“Our hometown approach has really resonated with the community,”
says Chambers. He calls the business a “product of our community
being able to trust us, one that is simply local & approachable.”
Part of their business is the Blue Marlin Cares foundation, which
sponsors countless community events such as lunches for teachers
and first responders, and has awarded a scholarship to a local Merritt
Island High School student, something they intend to continue in the
years to come. The foundation funds local parades, sponsors outdoor
sports for kids, even hosts the #1 boat parade in the county, the Merritt
Island Christmas Boat Parade. The foundation has adopted an island
in the Banana River and holds regular island cleanups in partnership
with Keep Brevard Beautiful along with ongoing incentives for anyone
willing to lend a helping hand.
Paulsen calls their work “a very cool passion product,” not just real
estate, “we’re an extension of the community.”
