FACES OF MEDICINE
ROBERT STANTON, MD
PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON
Practicing Since: 1980
As a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Nemours Children’s
Health, caring for children in Brevard County is important
to Dr. Robert Stanton. He understands the value of providing
high quality healthcare services to families close to home.
“Routine appointments or consultations as well as follow-up visits
after surgery are essential to ensure the best outcomes for our pediatric
patients,” says Dr. Stanton, who has treated Nemours patients for
nearly 35 years. “Providing local care that is convenient to families
helps to ensure they have access to the expert care their child needs.”
Dr. Stanton is very familiar with the area where he now spends time
caring for patients.
“I went to high school in Satellite Beach after my dad retired from
the military and we moved to the region,” he says. “I then went on to
college at the University of Florida. When I graduated from college,
I had an Army ROTC commission.”
Dr. Stanton says that his assignment as an administrator in an Army
hospital led him to his career in medicine.
“Working around physicians and staff seemed like an exciting career
to me, so I applied to medical school,” says Dr. Stanton. “It was also
there at the Army hospital that I was inspired by one of the physicians
to actually become an orthopedic surgeon.”
Later during his residency in orthopedics, Dr. Stanton completed a
pediatric rotation at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport,
LA. That’s where he fell in love with pediatric orthopedics.
“It’s especially gratifying to watch children that I’ve helped over the
years grow up healthy and move on to different phases of their lives. I
have attended some former patients’ weddings, and some have brought
their children to see me for care,” said Dr. Stanton. “I’ve even had a
few of my patients go into nursing or become doctors.”
Dr. Stanton and the orthopedics team at Nemours Children’s Health
in Melbourne treat a variety of conditions including fractures, hand
and upper extremity issues and scoliosis, to name a few. Dr. Stanton
also manages tumor care, both benign and malignant.
