Drew Breznitsky conquered the same demons his patients face.
56
He partied. He drank. He experimented with drugs. He fought. He
got in trouble with the law. He spent time in jail.
He knows the challenges his patients are fighting and how desperately
they require help to win that fight. Breznitsky launched Beachside
Recovery Interventions + Consulting to provide the assistance these
individuals and their families need.
The practice he created and where he serves as chief executive officer
is as unique as the man himself, for Beachside Recovery Interventions +
Consulting offers not just traditional counseling for a complete range of
mental health issues, but also provides comprehensive forensics evaluations
and expert witness services.
A typical week for Breznitsky reveals how wide in scope his practice is. On a
Monday, he may be visiting a patient at a Volusia County jail. On Tuesdays
and Wednesdays, you may find him counseling individuals and families at
his Satellite Beach office, and perhaps also testifying at the Brevard County
Courthouse. Come Thursday, he may be off to Putnam County for another
jail visit and on Friday, he may head to Phoenix House Florida to speak with
patients facing substance use or mental health issues.
Breznitsky, who earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health
counseling and marriage and family therapy from Webster University,
is qualified as an expert witness in substance use and mental health
assessment and treatment services throughout the 2nd, 4th and 5th
District Courts of Central Florida.
“We help mental health and substance use-motivated cases that deal
with everything from DUIs to murder,” he said.
The integrity, ethical assessment and unbiased testimony he brings to
cases have earned Breznitsky the respect and trust of patients, attorneys
and judges alike. Patients are referred through the courts and Public
Defender’s Office, private attorneys or by word-of-mouth.
“We will do a full workup, treatment plan and continuing case management,
throughout the continuum of care,” said Breznitsky.
Breznitsky’s efforts on behalf of patients earned him the 2022 LEAD
Brevard’s 4 under 40 Award. The award is presented to four Brevard
residents for significant commitment to the community.
“I am here to walk by our families’ side to help them appropriately
navigate a broken system though my own personal and professional
experience,” said Breznitsky at the award presentation.
Because he knows the legal system’s strengths and weaknesses from the
inside out, he safely steers patients through a system that is all too often
stacked against them. He takes great pride in the results he and his team
of counselors achieve.
“Our team has helped to assess and place hundreds of patients in
appropriate person-centered treatment over incarceration,” he said.
“We are proud that the overwhelming majority of our patients have
successfully completed treatment, as well as their obligations to the
court, and remain clean and sober.”
Beachside Recovery Interventions + Consulting also provides interventions
tailored to patient’s individual situations.
“We combine traditional intervention strategies with clinical therapeutic
orientations to increase intervention success and engage patients
throughout the continuum of care,” said Breznitsky.
The clinical team originates from diverse backgrounds and understands
how mental health issues and substance misuse can impact the lives of
individuals of different cultures.
“Our therapists come from many different backgrounds and perspectives,
but they all possess the very important qualities of empathy, compassion
and emotional resilience,” said Breznitsky.
“We have multiple therapists who specialize in different areas, and
collectively we address trauma, family systems, issues affecting
adolescents and substance use.”
Beachside Recovery Interventions + Consulting’s outpatient therapy
encompass the gamut of mental health issues, with individualized
treatment plans focusing on patients’ abilities, strengths and needs.
“We take our time to get to our know our patients and really focus on
their individual needs,” said Breznitsky.
“We are never one-size-fits-all, we are here to help the patients as they
each are and as how they want to be.”
Traditional therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavior therapy are
enhanced by creative therapeutic approaches that include surf therapy,
music therapy, animal assisted therapy, art therapy, bibliotherapy and others.
This eclectic but effective approach resonates with patients.
“The level of treatment my husband received put our family back
together,” said Melanie.
“This very difficult situation was made so much easier. The level of treatment
my husband received put our family back together! ”
Along with counseling, the practice offers psychiatric services as an
integral component for appropriate diagnosis and treatment of mental
health disorders. Medication Assisted Treatment, or MAT, is provided if
indicated and may include alcohol and drug dependence treatments
such as Vivitrol, Suboxone, Naltrexone and others.
The treatment is comprehensive and complex, but the goal is simple.
“We empower our patients to take back their lives, to rewrite their stories,”
said Breznitsky.
