Fiber Artists Meet for “Grab Bag Color Theory” Workshop
The Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Artists will meet at 10 am, Saturday July 23 at the Merritt lsland Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway.
Keith Straley will present a workshop on “Grab Bag Color Theory.” Keith will explore spinning with different colored fiber. Fiber artists who don’t spin will explore interesting insights on color theory and learn what goes into yarn construction.
When buying prepared fiber for spinning, it often comes in a limited palette of colors.. This workshop will look at ways to get the most use out of various colorways by deconstructing them and recombining the colors in new ways.
Each participant will receive 2 ounces of combed merino wool in an assortment of colors as well as a handout detailing the information presented in the workshop. Participants will be encouraged to spin up their fiber and use it in a project to bring for a future show and tell.
Keith is a local writer, jeweler, and multimedia artist currently exploring pre-modern fashions using ancient, modern and innovated technologies and materials. A Cocoa High alumnus and US Army veteran, he is the owner of Reset20 Studios. His work is available online on Etsy, and locally at Mrs. Mango & Company, Knit & Stitch Boutique and various art shows.
SCW&F meetings are free and open to the public.. There is no charge for the workshop but a suggested donation of $8 is requested for the grab bags and handout.
Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts.
