SUMMARY:Explore Basic Weaving and Fiber Guild Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Jeanie McCormack will present a workshop, “Exploring Ways to Weave for Beginners and Experienced Fiber Artists” at the June 27th meeting of the Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artists. 10 a.m. at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N Courtenay Pkwy.\nThe program will discuss different types of portable looms and the woven items that can be made on them.  The focus will be on rigid heddle looms due to how versatile and portable they are. Attendee will be able to weave on on pre-warped rigid heddle looms.  All materials will be provided, no experience is required and there is no fee. \nIf you have a rigid heddle ,or any type of portable loom you can share, please warp it ahead of time.  A number of yarns, different weights and colors, along with fabric strips and wool roving will be available to weave with.  Contact Jeanie by email with any questions at jeaniemc555@gmail.com\n \nJeanie started sewing, embroidering, and crocheting as a preteen, learning from her mom and a very special next-door neighbor.  She started sewing her clothes in Jr High and continued this into adulthood for herself and her children.  Later, a crazy quilt that had been made by her grandmother inspired her to combine quilting with embroidery.  \nWith such an interest in textiles, weaving had always been something she wanted to try.  In 2019 she took a beginning rigid heddle loom weaving class at Knit & Stitch in Cocoa Village and she has been trying out different looms and techniques since.  Weaving is now an important part of her enjoyment of fiber arts and she really loves to give others the opportunity to try it out for themselves.\nSince 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go–to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts. Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, call Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610. or visit https://www.spacecoastweaversandfiberartists.org/\n
