“ Cooking should be fun, and these classes are nothing short of that.” says Chef Fernando Navarete

On any ordinary date night you can go to a dinner and a movie, but if you’re looking to spice things up — literally and figuratively — make your date night one to remember with a couple’s cooking class.

The experience of learning to cook a new dish together can be more romantic than you think. Whether you’re an inexperienced cook or an aspiring chef, date night cooking classes are designed to engage and inspire couples.

Chef Fernando Navarete of So Good Cottage Café in Cocoa hosts a cooking class once a month at Island Paint & Decorating in Merritt Island. Participants will learn tips and tricks by watching Chef Fernando cook a starter and entrée from beginning to end. The class receives a tasting portion of each item, as well as beer or wine.

Each month the menu changes ranging from seasonal dishes to international cuisine like Mexican, Indian, and Caribbean to gluten-free and much more. Chef Fernando is a classically trained chef from the Florida Culinary Institute and has more than 19 years of experience. He describes his style as “basic or classical dishes with an eclectic, healthy twist.”

Classes are open to the general public and are not limited to couples only. “I have a passion for teaching people this lost art. I want them to learn, feel confident and expand their skills in the kitchen,” Chef Fernando said.

Reservations are $50 per person and include sample portions, wine or beer, and recipes from the featured items. Space is limited and early reservations are recommended. Starting in May, Chef Fernando will be offering additional classes at the So Good Cottage location.
