Seven European Café

With a continually updated menu that runs the gamut from Swedish meatballs to Greek salads to freshly baked French croissants, Seven European Café can be defined as a restaurant that serves a fusion of delectable European dishes. Scratch beneath the surface, however, and you’ll discover a café unlike any others in Brevard, serving exceptional worldwide fare.
“I like variety and to try new things,” says owner Liselott Stiernelof, who learned to cook from her mom while growing up in Sweden. “Our cuisine is European, but not strictly European.”
Food and drinks at the Melbourne restaurant are ordered at the counter and then quickly delivered to your table. Individual menu items are updated daily and chosen by the freshness of available ingredients, however, soups, quiches, gourmet pizzas, paninis and a variety of desserts are typically ready to be served at all times.
The restaurant’s soups in particular are outstanding, and on any given day can include favorites such as mushroom Brie, tomato bisque, vegetable, onion, garlic and cheese, clam chowder and many more.
An example of a dish you may encounter at Seven is the vegetable quiche, stuffed with broccoli, onions and yellow and red peppers, and served with a fresh side salad. Another appetizing special entree is pork tenderloin topped with a French béarnaise sauce and garnished with snap peas and sprouts, and served with a generous side of roasted baby potatoes. For dinner, a pasta Bolognese topped with aioli sauce may be served.
And while it’s always a pleasant surprise to discover each day’s made-from-scratch menu items, Stiernelof says lasagna, made with freshly ground sirloin and a special mix of spices, is the restaurant’s most requested dish. “My lasagna was famous with my friends in Sweden. It’s perfect for a lot of people,” she says.
Seven’s pastries and desserts alone are a good enough reason to stop in. Using light and fresh real cream (no substitutes) these treats tend to be not as sweet as Americans are accustomed to eating. That, however, does not mean they’re not as flavorful. Layered chocolate, peanut butter, mango guava, raspberry and cappuccino represent a sample of the individual mousses that tempt patrons from a glass display.
Much like the food offerings, Seven’s wine menu has worldwide appeal at reasonable prices. More than 20 reds, whites, blushes and sparkling wines are served by the glass or bottle. An assortment of beer, wine-based martinis and Spanish sangrias also are available, and happy-hour specials are offered everyday. For those who prefer a non-alcoholic beverage, the café also serves up specialty coffees, juices, smoothies and teas.
The European atmosphere of Seven translates to the café’s décor, which features sleek and minimalist furniture from Swedish furniture giant IKEA. Black-and-white canvases depicting famous European landscapes line the walls and are displayed among black-and-white photographs of European icons like the Beatles. Whether you prefer to eat at a traditional dining table, an outdoor bistro table or at a window-lined high-top bar, the restaurant’s seating is accommodating to virtually every guest.
“The focus is on good conversation,” Stiernelof says. To illustrate this point, Seven offers a conversational seating area outfitted with comfortable black-leather couches centered around a coffee table and faux fireplace. This relaxing space is ideal for lounging while enjoying a freshly brewed latte.
Since Seven’s opening in December of last year, Stiernelof and her staff have been testing different things to determine what resonates with their guests. Live music, reservation-only five-course meals and brunches offering caviar and champagne are all new highlights of the restaurant.
Says Stiernelof, “I want people to feel like they’re in ‘Seventh Heaven’ when they eat at Seven.”
