It has been said, “If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the brows are the frames.”

People often underestimate how the right brow shape can transform their entire look. Whether you are an over-plucker or have brows like Frida Kahlo, these 4 steps will have you on your way to brow rehab.

Find a Brow Designer

Guilty of throwing in an eyebrow wax at the nail salon?  Consider going to a brow designer.  They don’t just remove unwanted hair, but they also shape a client’s brow to enhance their appearance and balance out the face.  According to AnaMarie Cadrillo, a brow designer and owner of The Brow Lady in Viera, a designer will take several factors into account in shaping a brow, such as the shape of the natural brow line, how the eyes are set and the color of the brow hair. A properly shaped brow can result in an instant eyelift. Who doesn’t want that?

Walk Away from the Wax

Waxing can be a quick way to remove hair, but it isn’t the preferred method around the delicate skin of the eye.  Waxing may not be the safest option depending on what products and prescription creams you may be using (Retin-A or Retinols). AnaMarie prefers tweezing, as it is more precise and less damaging to the hair follicles.  Keep calm and pluck on, but let a professional give you a roadmap.

Pick the Right Products

Using a powder to fill your brows will give you the most natural look. Powder tends to stick to the hair instead of the skin beneath it, so it won’t look drawn on. Choose a matte powder and one with more of an ashy color (unless you have red hair). Apply powders with a small angled brush. Pencils are good for shaping, but again, the right color is key. Any color that isn’t a match will risk looking drawn on. Use a clear mascara to set your brows. This will help blend the product and keep your brows neat and tame all day. We recommend using Anastasia Brow Powder Duo, $23MAC Cosmetics Eye Brow Pencil, $16MAC Cosmetics Angled Brow Brush,  $20Brow Diva Brow Control, $20.

Practice Patience

It may be tempting to pluck the strays that grow outside of your desired shape, but if you’re an over-tweezer, allowing them to grow in for a few weeks will give the brow designer more to work with. You may think your brows will never grow back normally after years of plucking, but they will. You just have to be patient and resist the urge to pluck!
