Roland Guilarte has had a lifelong passion for music. He came from a musical family and loves every aspect of the business. His first venture- a record store opened in 1985, led to the idea of organizing local shows when customers complained about the trip to Orlando. He decided then that the music should come to Brevard, Brevard shouldn’t go to the music. He organized his first show in June of 1993, “I fell in love with every aspect of the business,” Roland says.  He founded The Brevard Jazz Series and since then the ideas and shows have continued to grow as he expands to include other genres of music under the umbrella of The Brevard Music Group, while committing to stay local.

One project that has special meaning for Roland is an annual benefit concert that supports selected organizations that assist children living with disabilities. This year, the 5th Annual Brevard Jazz Series Benefit for Children with Disabilities stars saxophonist-vocalist Mindi Abair on Saturday, July 9 at the King Center for the Performing Arts. It has special meaning because Roland was born with cerebral palsy. The event will include a pre-concert dinner with Mindi at the Melbourne Beach Hilton and an internet silent auction. Net proceeds from all three events will benefit the No Limits Academy in Melbourne

The concert has two purposes according to Roland, to educate the general public that kids with disabilities can have normal, successful lives and to raise money. For the second year No Limits Academy will receive the proceeds. No Limits Academy provides an individually tailored, multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment and education of children with cerebral palsy and other physical disorders.
