Annual Poker Run to Benefit Brevard Non-Profit Hospices

The Leatherneck MC, Space Coast Chapter, will hold their annual Angels of Care Poker Run Fundraiser to benefit Brevard County Non-Profit Hospices on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Bikes will begin the run at the King Duck Inn on Merritt Island from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The journey will continue to Lone Cabbage, Camp Holly, Malabar Mo’s and Lou’s Blues. Single riders’ entry is $15 and passengers are $5. Prizes will be awarded for Best Hand, Worst Hand and 2nd place. Door prizes and raffle tickets for valuable prizes and a 50/50 will be available. The run will conclude with food and drink, live music and lots of fun!
The Poker Run started a couple of years ago after hospices services were provided to care for a young man, Travis Derrick, who had family in the Leathernecks MC. In 2010, Bill “Poppy” Barton, one of the Poker Run organizers, sought hospice services to care for his beloved wife, Sandi Barton, when she was struggling in her final days. All proceeds from this event will benefit the two non-profit hospices in Brevard County, Health First Hospice and Hospice of St. Francis.
“Hospice means something special to the Leathernecks MC. We put all we have in making this Poker Run a successful fundraiser for Brevard County Non-Profit Hospices. They care for patients and their families, regardless of their ability to pay. Last, year, we raised over $5,500 for each of the three non-profit hospices. We are hoping all of our supporters will come out again this year and bring more of their friends,” explained Bill “Poppy” Barton. “If they cannot make the run, we will accept donations to include with the proceeds from the event.”
